Drug Test Finder
Which test is right for your situation?
First choose whether you want to test a person, a substance, a surface or a drink. The finder will then show only the questions that are relevant to your situation.
Start the Drug Test Finder
The finder narrows down the most suitable type of test and then shows specific products with an image and a direct link to the product page.
Urine test, saliva test, hair analysis or another type of test?
The appropriate test first depends on what is being checked. Possible drug use by a person may be assessed using urine, saliva or hair. Powder, tablets and other materials require a substance test. Residues on objects require a surface test. A suspicious drink should be checked with a test designed specifically for drinks.
Test a person
Depending on the time frame and the question, urine, saliva or hair analysis may be suitable.
Substance or surface
Material and residues are not tested with a drug test intended for a person.
Test a drink
A specific drink test is required when GHB or ketamine is suspected in a drink.
Quick guide: which type of test is suitable?
| Situation | More suitable type of test | Important note |
|---|---|---|
| Possible use a few hours ago | Saliva test or, depending on the substance, urine test | Mainly for very recent private guidance. |
| Possible use 1–3 days ago | Often a urine test | Detectability varies depending on the substance and pattern of use. |
| Possible use several days ago | Usually a urine test | As more time passes, a rapid test may become less suitable. |
| Possible use weeks or months ago | Laboratory hair analysis | Urine and saliva tests are generally unsuitable for such a long look-back period. |
| Unknown powder, tablet or material | Substance test | Tests for people analyse body samples, not the material itself. |
| Residues on objects | Surface test | For traces and residues on a surface. |
| Suspicious drink | GHB/KET drink test | A negative result does not rule out other possible substances. |
| Official or medical consequences | Specialist service or laboratory testing | A home test is not a legally reliable basis for a decision. |
Single-substance test or multi-drug test?
A single-substance test is useful when a specific substance is known or strongly suspected. A multi-drug test is generally the better first option when several substances may be involved, combined use cannot be ruled out or there is no clear suspicion.
What should you do with an unknown substance?
If available material is to be checked, a urine or saliva test is not suitable. Choose “A substance or material” in the finder and then select the suspected substance group. For residues on an object, choose “A surface or object”.
Rapid tests provide initial guidance. When medical, legal, employment or official consequences are possible, an appropriate specialist service or laboratory analysis should be used. When acute health symptoms are present, medical help always takes priority over testing.

Drug Test Finder FAQ
How many questions do I need to answer?
Depending on the situation, only one to a maximum of six short questions are required. Irrelevant questions are skipped automatically.
When is a urine test suitable?
A urine test is suitable for many short-term questions when a urine sample is available. When the substance is known, a single-substance test may be enough; when the situation is unclear, a multi-drug test is generally more appropriate.
When is a saliva test suitable?
A saliva test can be suitable for a recent situation and when simple collection is important. It is not suitable for a look-back period of several weeks or months.
When is hair analysis suitable?
Hair analysis is mainly considered when a longer period needs to be assessed retrospectively. The sample is analysed in a laboratory.
Can I test powder or a tablet with a urine test?
No. Urine and saliva tests are designed for body samples. Powder, tablets, crystals or other material require an appropriate substance test.
What does the drink-spiking test check for?
The available drink test provides indicative screening for GHB and ketamine. It does not detect every substance that may be used to spike a drink.
Can a rapid test provide a legally reliable result?
No. When legal, employment, official or medical consequences are possible, a specialist service or confirmatory laboratory analysis is required.
What should be done when acute health symptoms are present?
If there is reduced consciousness, breathing difficulty, severe confusion, collapse, seizures or circulatory problems, do not wait for a test result. Medical help takes priority.
