Antibody tests are useful tools for determining previous infections.
A study published on 17.8.2020 showed a 100 percent agreement between Covid-19 antibody tests carried out and the PCR tests widely used to determine COVID-19 infections.
The doctors compared the results of PCR tests with the results of a SARS-CoV-2 rapid antibody test. The study provides additional evidence that rapid tests to identify patients with COVID-19 antibodies who have had a positive PCR test, symptomatic without PCR test, or asymptomatic, can be an effective tool for health professionals to determine or confirm previous infections.
„This study further demonstrates the importance of rapid serological tests,“ said Dr. Gerald Osher of North Shore Medical Associates, who supervised the study in North Suburban Chicago.
„Serological testing is a valuable tool for identifying antibodies, which in turn helps assess patient immunity and establish guidelines for responsible reopening procedures.“
In April and May, two doctors‘ offices in the northern suburb of Chicago performed rapid serological tests on 114 study participants.
The study found a 100% positive match between a PCR test and the IgG/IgM rapid test cassette of the Clungene® SARS-CoV-2 virus.
The study successfully investigated the use of an antibody test to determine which patients developed antibodies that indicate an immune response from SARS-CoV-2.
