Carbon dioxide, or better known as Co2, is a colorless and odorless gas that can only be detected with a measuring instrument and is life-threatening in elevated concentrations. Previous measurements in public facilities and schools have shown that the previous ventilation behaviour was inadequate and the measured CO2 concentration was exceeded.
CO2 measuring device for schools, universities and open-plan offices
The air quality in classrooms not only influences the health of pupils and teachers, but also their performance. In a study by the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH), air quality was inadequate in two-thirds of Swiss schools!
Especially in universities, schools, open-plan offices and other public facilities, where a large number of people come together, correct and regular ventilation is becoming more important than ever.
The transmission of viruses via aerosols has been a proven fact since the Covid pandemic. An aerosol is a liquid or solid particle that floats in the air. This particle can also be a virus. For example, when coughing, you may emit millions of viruses, while when you speak, there are thousands of them in different sizes. These droplets consist mainly of water and are typically about one to over a hundred micrometers in size. The water usually evaporates quickly, which can happen in seconds to minutes, and the droplet shrinks. What remains is a mix of the virus and any other semi-liquid organic components. These leftover particles remain in the air and spread throughout the rooms like a kind of fine dust.
CO2 measuring device for ecological ventilation in winter
The experts therefore recommend supplying the interiors with fresh air more often. However, permanent ventilation should be avoided as far as possible. In summer, the interior heats up due to the hot outside temperature and in winter it affects the high heating costs and the associated enormous heating costs.
Where there are many people in a room, there is a lot of exhalation. This is about 8 liters of air per minute per person. This contains CO2. In this regard, the FOPH has issued corresponding recommendations on ventilation behaviour in schools and classrooms. There are recommended guideline values. For example, the CO2 concentration should not exceed 1,000 ppm. PPM is the abbreviation for the unit of measurement „parts per million“, i.e. the number of parts per million. In fresh outdoor air, the CO2 concentration is usually 400 ppm. The idea of setting up CO2 measuring devices in classrooms or offices is not about extreme values. Rather, the measurements can be an aid. A high proportion of CO2 in the air is an indication that many aerosols also move in the air.
CO2 meter, temperature and humidity
With our CO2 measuring device , humidity and temperature can be measured in addition to the CO2 value. The device is easy to use, has a compact design and can be placed on any table or mounted on the wall.
Detecting air quality at a glance
In addition to the large LCD display, 3 colored LEDs show the current air quality. The green LED with the corresponding laughing smiley signals that everything is fine and the air quality is good. The yellow LED with the corresponding smiley indicates that the CO2 concentration in the room is increasing and is still within an acceptable range, but signs of fatigue can already occur as a side effect.
The red LED and the „crying smiley“ show that the air quality no longer meets health requirements. It is imperative that the room be supplied with fresh air, which can usually be achieved again within minutes with short-term cross-ventilation.
An optionally adjustable „alarm“ emits an acoustic indication when the guideline value is reached.
State-of-the-art CO2 sensor technology delivers highly precise measurement results
The NDIR (non-dispersive infrared) sensor from the latest generation works quickly and reliably. In the past, so-called chemo sensors were often used to determine CO2. These were extremely susceptible to failure and delivered inaccurate results.
Wide-ranging areas of application for CO2 and air quality measurement
Our CO2 measuring device is ideally suited for air measurement in schools, offices, restaurants and hotels, factories, hospitals and greenhouses. The device comes with a connection cable and also contains a powerful Li-Ion battery. Electricity-independent operation is thus guaranteed at all times – ideal in schools, where, for example, classrooms have to be changed more often or as a mobile CO2 measuring device at workshops.
