Chemsex – Sex on drugs – effects and risks

The meaning of „chemsex“ is simply explained. Chemsex means sex on drugs. Chemsex is mainly practiced in the gay and queer scene, but hetereo couples are also increasingly reaching for chemical cocktails in order to be able to experience sexuality differently, although drug use is always associated with risks that can have massive effects on health.

Chemsex - Sex with drugs

What is chemsex?

Chemsex is sex under the influence of psychoactive substances, called „chems“ for short. The term chems includes drugs and substances such as GHB and GBL, methamphetamine (crystal), mephedrone and other cathinones (e.g. 3-MMC / 3-CMC).

What does psychoactive mean?

Psychoactive means that these drugs and substances have an effect on one’s own perception, behavior and feelings and actively change them during the state of intoxication. Most of these substances are illegal and are produced synthetically, i.e. chemically.

Sex without drugs is no longer fun!

The danger that sex without drugs has a negative effect on the „normal“ sex life is very high. Especially those who often engage in chemsex have to accept that sex without the influence of substances is no longer possible or loses its appeal. Common side effects in this context are erectile dysfunction and loss of libido.

When is chemsex dangerous?

Chemsex is often mistakenly associated with carefree sex, fun and „letting yourself go“. As mentioned, chemsex also carries great risks. One of the most common problems – apart from negatively affecting libido or sexual perception – is the fact that drugs are often contaminated or laced with other harmful substances and agents. The risk of intoxication (poisoning) should not be underestimated. A factual education can help to have the necessary respect for chemsex and to protect yourself and others from crossing boundaries, an overdose and dangerous side effects. But it is even more important to actively inform oneself about the drugs or the substances that one consumes. The substance tests provided by Toxcontrol can help to test the quality and purity of the drugs by means of a self-test. The risk of poisoning can thus be avoided as far as possible.

How high is the risk that I will become addicted to drugs through chemsex?

Sexual desire and the state of intoxication of drugs are closely linked. Many who practice chemsex are not drug addicts and do not otherwise consume drugs BUT the risk of losing the inhibition threshold and respect for the drugs is many times greater than if you practice sex without drugs. Especially when sex without drugs is no longer fun, the risk of addiction is enormously high and with it the fact that you can reach for the drug even without sex.

Testing drugs for ingredients:
